Innovation and Democracy come together at the Democracy Tech Hackathon on October 27th and 28th at Artcor

February 27, 2024

The Democracy Tech Hackathon, a public initiative that leverages technology in support of freedom and democracy, is set to take place on October 27th and 28th, 2023, at Artcor. This hackathon will be held within the Moldova DemTech Conference and is organized by Yep! Moldova in partnership with the Alliance of Democracies Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by former NATO Secretary General and former Prime Minister of Denmark, Anders Fogh Rasmussen.

The Democracy Tech Hackathon is a two-day event with the aim of bringing technology innovation together to uphold the values of democracy and freedom. Participants, including developers, designers, data analysts, entrepreneurs, and public policy experts, will collaborate to develop creative solutions that address the challenges faced by democracy in today's world.

Winners of this year's hackathon will receive mentorship from the Alliance of Democracies Foundation and the opportunity to become fellows in the upcoming cycle of the Democracy Tech Entrepreneurship Program.

Democracy Tech Hackathon:

This year marks the second edition of the Democracy Tech Hackathon in Chisinau. The first edition took place in November 2022, where the winning team, developers of the "People's Parliament" project, emerged victorious. The team formed of six young innovators continued to receive support throughout December to further develop their innovative solution. In May 2023, they had the opportunity to present their solution at the prestigious Copenhagen Democracy Summit (CDS). You can watch the Moldovan team's presentation here:  https://youtu.be/mvJeag0ftyI

Over the past three years, the Alliance of Democracies Foundation, through its Democracy Tech fellowship program, has equipped entrepreneurs from Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, and Armenia with technological solutions to address democracy-related challenges. These fellows have gained valuable insights through masterclasses, mentoring, and the chance to present their technological solutions at the annual Copenhagen Democracy Summit.
